iC2 installs Power over Ethernet system at national epilepsy charity

iC2 CCTV, the Kent–based security specialist has recently completed the installation of a fully integrated Panasonic ‘Power over Ethernet’ system at The National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy (NCYPE), the UK’s leading provider of specialist services for children and young people with complex epilepsy and other neurological conditions.

The state of the art installation was completed at the end of 2007 and comprised 19 vandal resistant fixed – dome cameras feeding into a 32 channel network recorder. The cameras feature a day/night function and automatically switch to mono recording at night.

The network recorder has a built-in web server which can be accessed remotely through internet explorer. It is password protected and allows either full or partial access according to status. The image quality is much higher than with analogue systems as less compression is required.

The Power over Ethernet solution was by far the most practical method of installation given the sheer size of the site. There are over 85 separate buildings covering a 200 acre campus. The centre already had a network installed which iC2 were able to utilise. The contract is ongoing with phase 2 being the installation of an access control system.

The NCYPE’s IT Manager Eddie Erasmus said: “We are delighted with the new system. The installation went very smoothly and the quality of the images provided is excellent. As the UK’s major provider of specialist services for children and young people with complex epilepsy and other neurological conditions, we have hundreds of young students, staff and carers at our centre and are now able to provide a safer environment for them.”
